Once reheated in the microwave, these foods become poisons

Are you preparing your Tupperware for lunch the next day at work? One evening when you’re too lazy to cook, do you prefer to reheat the small dish of rice hidden in your fridge? However, reheating certain foods can have consequences. We tell you everything.

There are so many good excuses not to cook 100% fresh every meal. Lack of time, location problem, or even just laziness… it’s completely understandable! But be careful, many experts warn of certain foods that would be very bad for your health if reheated, with consequences that could go from bloating to food poisoning. Overview of foods that should definitely not be microwaved.

For them, no second chance

  • Leftover chicken from the day before are eaten cold and with mayo, that’s it! The microwave does not cook evenly and you run the risk of catching salmonella. If you really prefer hot chicken, you should have cooked it well beforehand to attempt gentle reheating. If it is still a little pink, it is better to cook gently in the oven or in a pan.
  • Nitrate-based vegetables are also a problem. Celery, spinach and beets All 3 have contraindications to microwaves. These vegetables, although sources of fiber and vitamins, are also full of nitrates which, once reheated, transform into nitrites, potentially dangerous for humans.
  • As surprising as it may seem, potatoes don’t get warm either. Rich in starch, this starchy food is one of the French’s favorite side dishes. But, once reheated, it loses all its nutrients and can become more difficult to digest, or even toxic. Favor potato salads, which are just as good.

They are not yet to be banned

For the following, it mainly depends on your metabolism. We don’t digest all foods the same way.

  • The best known remains rice. This food causes stomach problems due to bacteria Bacillus Cereus present in cereals such as rice. If you do cooling your rice outside for too long before putting it in the fridge or if it was poorly cooked, the bacteria multiplies in this poorly preserved grain. Most of the time, the consequences are relatively mild, but in the worst cases, this bacteria can cause death. To limit the risks, you can reheat the rice by adding around 20ml of water to prevent the multiplication of toxins that may have formed, or from a more taste point of view, to obtain a dish that will be much better than reheated rice. , sticky and dry.
  • Button mushrooms can heat up, but under certain conditions. For example, they cannot be kept for more than 2 days after preparation. Obviously, they lose some of their great taste, whether in forest sauce or with crème fraîche, and you risk digesting them a little less well.

Maybe you always reheated these foods the next day and never had anything? It’s possible and normal. Not everyone has the same metabolism, and prevention is better than cure! The most important thing is therefore to respect the cold chain, by not letting our food cool in the open air for too long. For some of them, it is even better not to reheat them to avoid any unpleasant surprises (and they are super good, even cold…)
