A major fire mobilizes many firefighters to the Holy Spirit

A fire broke out this Friday evening (September 29, 2023) on a chicken farm in Saint-Esprit. The firefighters are mobilized. Residents of the communes of Saint-Esprit and Rivière-Pilote remained without electricity for many minutes.

It was around 6:30 p.m. that residents of the Peter Maillet neighborhood in Saint-Esprit heard an explosion. Then, those closest saw flames on a building.

According to witnesses, it was a photovoltaic installation battery which exploded then caught fire.

The firefighters intervened quickly. The intervention is still in progress in order to avoid any spread. 18 firemen from the François, Ducos, Rivière-Salée, Vauclin and Fort-de-France barracks are present on site.

According to EDF, electricity returned around 8 p.m., but customers in the communes of Saint-Esprit and Rivière-Pilote were without power for long minutes.
