During the week preceding the school holidays, actions were implemented in the Saint-Pierre school canteen: the emphasis was placed on taste. Among these activities, Julie Berthelot, middle and upper section teacher, suggested that her 24 students put a color in the spotlight every day, from October 16 to 20. “On Monday, we tackled green, then yellow the next day, followed by orange on Thursday and white on Friday,” explains the teacher. “And, every day, the children were invited to wear a piece of clothing, an accessory in the color of the day. The parents played the game well, they looked in their closet,” continue school officials.

The children tasted everything

The latter also specify that “the teacher and the mother’s help also played the game”. In addition, parents brought food, raw or cooked, of the color of the day. On Monday, broccoli, grapes and cucumber were on the menu. Tuesday, corn, peppers, pineapples were on the plates. Thursday, mango, clementine, pumpkin puree were in the spotlight. Finally, on Friday, the schoolchildren were able to taste hearts of palm, meringue, popcorn, white chocolate, among other flavors.

“In the morning, when they returned from recess, the children discovered the foods they had brought and we tasted them in small quantities. All the families participated,” notes Julie Berthelot, delighted with the success of the action. “Taste week was also an opportunity to cook. Including soft apple cakes and carrot and orange muffins. Mothers came to help us. »

The week ended with each child being given “a hat which will perhaps encourage them to cook at home”, she hopes. The objective of this week was also “to dare to taste before saying that we like a food or not”, specifies the teacher, who welcomes “a very good participation of the children, they really tasted everything. Well done to them.”
