STI-Tuned 2024 Subaru BRZ tS Adds Bite But No Extra Power

Subaru today announced it is bringing back a special edition of the BRZ sports coupe. Similar to the first-generation model, the new 2024 BRZ tS enhances performance and handling with an STI-tuned suspension and brakes.

As reported last month, the BRZ’s twin, the Toyota GR 86, is getting a special edition of its own called TRUENO for 2024.

More Cock

The BRZ tS features unique front and rear Hitachi dampers to maximize its light weight, ultra-low center of gravity and precision handling. A high-performance Brembo braking system, including gold-painted four-piston front calipers, gold-painted dual-piston rear calipers as well as larger pads and rotors, enhances stopping power.

These brakes are partially hidden by 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in dark gray finish. The 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires are the same found on the Sport-tech model.

With regard to the exterior design, “tS” badging is applied to the front grille and rear decklid. The mirror caps and roof-mounted shark fin antenna come in black. Incidentally, the tS will be available in all colors for the 2024 BRZ model line.

Inside, the main changes are tS-only contrasting blue stitching on the front seat bolsters, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shifter boot and parking brake boot, plus a blue leather accent down the middle of the seats. The STI logo is displayed on the red start-stop button and customizable seven-inch digital instrument cluster, which is also updated with tS-exclusive red accents.

Same Power, Extra Safety

Don’t look for changes under the hood, though. The 2024 BRZ tS is powered by the familiar 2.4-litre engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque. It is mated to a close-ratio, six-speed manual transmission exclusively, not to mention a Torsen limited-slip differential. No autobox here. We wish engineers would have done something to make the exhaust note a little bit more stimulating, mind you.

Great news: all 2024 Subaru BRZ models equipped with a manual transmission, including the tS, will feature EyeSight as standard equipment. This means drivers will no longer have to sacrifice technologies like Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking System, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, along with Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

The 2024 Subaru BRZ tS will go on sale early next year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch—likely just shy of $40,000 in Canada.
