The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development published this Saturday an important press release reminding poultry cooperatives of the possibility of supplying their breeding structures with corn and soybean meals via the National Livestock Feed Office (ONAB) .
This recall comes in accordance with the provisions of Executive Decree No. 23-112 of March 9, 2023, which deals with the terms of exemption from value added tax (VAT) for sales of barley, corn, as well as materials and products intended for livestock and poultry feed. These measures aim to encourage poultry farming by reducing the tax burden for agricultural cooperatives benefiting from the support system, in particular through exemption from VAT.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reminds all poultry cooperatives of the possibility of supplying breeding structures with livestock feed, “corn and soybean meals” from the National Office of Livestock Feed (ONAB),” we read in the press release.
“This reminder comes in accordance with the provisions of Executive Decree No. 23-112 of March 9, 2023, relating to the terms of exemption from value added tax, sales operations for barley and corn as well as materials and products intended for livestock and poultry feed, which authorizes all “public and private” operators to sell corn as a poultry input for the benefit of agricultural cooperatives benefiting from the support system (exemption from VAT)”, concludes the same source.
This press release from the Ministry of Agriculture comes as chicken prices have soared in recent weeks, exceeding 600 dinars per kilo. Last Wednesday, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture spoke about this increase in chicken prices.
The increase in chicken prices observed on national markets in recent weeks is “cyclical”, said the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Messaoud Bendridi, predicting a drop in the “coming days”.
In an interview with Channel I of Algerian Radio, Mr. Bendridi explained that chicken prices, which recently exceeded 600 Da per kilo, will soon fall thanks to the rehabilitation operations of poultry breeding buildings, adding that the drop will be significant either at the level of the National Livestock Feed Office (ONAB) or among private breeders.
