Gyubee: Japanese barbecue on Sainte-Catherine Street West

We discovered Gyubee, a Japanese restaurant “ all-you-can-eat » which opened its doors on June 24, 2023 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest. It’s a great place for an evening with friends without breaking the bank.

Gyubee is a Canadian restaurant chain that has enjoyed great success, particularly in Toronto, in recent years. Now open in Montreal, the place is already very popular and appreciated by Japanese barbecue fans.

Gyubee is a fun and unpretentious restaurant. The principle is simple: you choose your meat, fish, seafood, as well as your vegetables and accompaniments. Then the team (and even a robot!) brings you the ingredients so you can cook them yourself on a grill at your table. The restaurant offers a wide selection of meats and fish, including pork belly, beef, salmon en papillote, shrimp, squid, and more. In short, the variety is impressive. If you are a meat lover, you will be delighted! We particularly enjoyed the miso marinated pork belly. As for side dishes, you have the choice between zucchini, mushrooms, onions, garlic, cold tofu, kimchi, etc. There’s something for everyone, not to mention the different dipping sauces. The place also offers a few cocktails, including a lychee mojito, as well as beer and sake. For dessert, you can enjoy a vanilla crème brûlée or ice cream in the flavor of the day, if, after this feast, you still have room for dessert, of course.

We recommend Gyubee, because it is a welcoming, generous and above all very affordable place. For all these reasons, the restaurant deserves its place among our recommendations for places to eat inexpensively in Montreal.
