Breville Barista Express vs Pro: Which Is Best For You?

If you are like many people, you enjoy a good cup of espresso now and then. But making a great cup of espresso can be difficult, especially if you don’t have the right equipment. When it comes time to purchasing your first espresso machine, the options can be overwhelming. Do you want a super automatic or a semi-automatic? And which one of those two categories is best for you? If you’re not sure where to start, today’s post is for you!

There are many coffee machines on the market, but not all of them will give you that perfect cup of joe. Breville is one company with a range of different models to suit your needs and budget. The Breville Barista Express vs Pro choice can be daunting though if you’re unsure which machine would work best for your needs. That’s why we put together this guide outlining what each model has to offer so that it becomes easier for you to choose the right one for your home or office!

Breville Barista Express

Barista express is a pressure coffee machine which was initially designed for commercial use. The manufacturer of this machine wanted to provide the market with a stylish and effective solution to make quality espresso at home. Home espresso machines offer high-quality drinks but lack in consistency, usually resulting in a not so tasty shot of espresso every once in a while. On the other hand, there are lots of commercial machines that produce consistent shots, but they’re expensive and not good enough for every day use. This is why they decided to create something new – a commercial grade machine that can be used on almost any kitchen countertop as well as producing consistently delicious shots of espresso or plain coffee every you press the button.

That’s why they invented Barista Express machine, a dual boiler espresso and coffee machine that gives you the chance to customize the taste and strength of your espresso. The great thing about this machine is that it comes with all the necessary components for espresso making: one stainless steel steam wand and an adjustable hot water dispenser which allows you to make flavored drinks such as chai latte or mocha without buying extra equipment.

Barista express operates on 15 amps circuit, so any household electrical socket will be enough to use it. It has a heat exchanger which preheats water in less than 45 seconds. For coffee lovers who enjoy milk based beverages this is an excellent solution because you can prepare them at home without going through various steps and spending extra money. The machine will automatically turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity, which is another great safety feature.

For those who are serious about coffee, this machine is the best choice because it allows you to make professional shots at home by simply turning on a button without worrying too much about temperature and other factors that greatly influence the quality of a shot. It has a unique frothing system that gives consistent results every time , unlike steam wand present on most espresso machines which cannot control the temperature burst of steam accurately enough. This makes Barista Express arguably one of the best models available on today’s market – both for beginners and professionals.

The Pros And Cons Of Barista Express

The Pros

Barista Express provide home based coffee makers the ability to make quality coffee drinks like those made by regular baristas. The machines can make a variety of beverages all at the push of a button, and the best part is that they use little counter space and do not require much upkeep or cleaning afterwards.

Small Footprint

While some home-based coffee machines take up an entire kitchen shelf, Barista Express is designed to fit on any kitchen counter without having to sacrifice too much space. These durable units come with built in reservoirs which can be refilled easily as needed. They also feature easy access water filters and milk carafes so there’s less need to get under the machine to clean it.

Many Options

These units don’t just make espresso and regular coffee, they also have a variety of other features that can be utilized in making speciality drinks. These include creating frothed milk for cappuccinos and lattes, iced tea with tea-bags, iced coffee with instant coffee, and more. Buying one of these units saves money on purchasing pre-made specialty drinks from cafes or restaurants when you can make them at home faster and cheaper.

Ease of Use

All of the functions on Barista Express are set up in an easy to use format so there’s no need to know how to be a professional barista in order to get quality results. The push of a button generates hot water or steam, dispenses coffee grounds, and tampers the drink after brewing. In most cases it’s as simple as adding loose ground coffee to a filter, adding water to the reservoir, and letting the machine do all of the work for you.

Less Cleaning

One nice feature about these units is that they have removable parts which allow easy cleaning by hand or in a dishwasher. Not having to take off certain parts or remove excess residue from them helps keep your kitchen looking clean and fresh instead of disorganized with appliances out of place . It also saves time from taking everything apart just so you can achieve a good cleaning job. Now whenever company comes over they’ll be able to see your kitchen sink instead of just your coffee machine!

A Quality Product

When you invest in a Barista Express, you make an investment that will continue to produce results for years to come. These machines are professionally made with quality materials and features which allow them to provide years of caffeine fueled energy drinks without breaking down or requiring too much upkeep. Buying one of these units means investing in better tasting beverages and having more options available when getting yourself out of bed each morning. It also adds convenience by allowing anyone to make professional looking coffee drinks at their own home!

The Cons

Cleaning up the machine is one of the most difficult parts of using a Barista Express. It’s easy to remove certain parts which are dishwasher safe but there are also some areas that need to be cleaned with special implements. The steam function especially needs to be cleaned out during or after each use, otherwise an excess residue forms that can ruin future coffee drinks made on the unit.

Warranty period usually only lasts for one year so if problems arise you will have no choice but to fix them yourself or buy a new unit replacement. Luckily replacement units aren’t too expensive so it evens out over time, and most malfunctions can be fixed quickly without having to buy something brand new. It just might take away from the convenience factor.

If you have a large family or host parties often, you might feel as if this unit is too small and not worth the investment. You will also need to refill it often during long preparation times and that can be quite annoying when making coffee for more than two people at once. If you’re always on the go though, you won’t mind having to refill it every few minutes which means each cup of coffee takes about five minutes or less.

Another downside to barista espresso machines is simply the price tag they carry with them. These units are very expensive, but considering everything they do and all of their different features it’s something of a necessity in order to professional looking drinks without hiring another coffee person. They are generally very durable and can be used daily without showing any signs of wear. If you’re willing to wait it out the first year or two, you will save a lot of money by investing in one of these units!

Various settings are programmed into the system so you can create different types of flavors depending on how strong or weak you want your drink to be. Also, there are different pre-programmed settings for a variety of coffee types, from cappuccino to latte.

The result is a beautifully balanced coffee with a smooth and velvety texture. You can compare it to the quality of a café brew without having to spend the time and effort setting up your own expensive espresso machine. In fact, most people who have tried this model would not want anything else but this product because everything from its ease of use, functionality, design and efficiency has been taken into consideration during its development stage.

– Large Management Of Features

You will also love how there are so many management features that come with this particular coffee brewer which you might not find in other similar products available on the market today. The device has a built-in microprocessor which allows you to manage and control various functions such as its programmable timer, the grinder settings and many more.

The design of this machine is also another thing that would make you love it because all of its components are electronically controlled to ensure easy product maintenance while improving output quality. This particular type of coffee maker is perfect for making high volume servings in a short span of time. – Insulated Carafe

If you are also weary about how well the carafe is insulated, this particular model has a double walled thermal carafe. This means that your coffee or tea will be kept hot for long hours without having to use any special heating tray under the pot. It’s just enough to leave it on its own at room temperature and it would still maintain the same flavor before serving. If you want great tasting coffee at home without spending too much time just to dial in each setting yourself, the Breville Pro Coffee Maker with its customizable settings is definitely for you!

The Cons

Well, I can’t say it’s not good. But here are some cons of the Breville Pro Coffee Maker for you to consider before buying one.

– The coffee doesn’t stay hot for long. This problem is somewhat similar to that of other pour-over drip brewers but it’s especially problematic with the Breville due to its thin insulation. I’m not sure why it’s not insulated better but the glass carafe needs to be handled with care or it will burn your hand if filled too full. At least this problem is easily solved by pre-heating your mug before starting a brew cycle.

– The Breville doesn’t offer hot water for tea, instant soup, etc. So if you like to drink tea, make instant soup or oatmeal in the morning with your coffee then this is not your ideal brewer.

– The carafe uses a plastic lid, not glass. This may be an issue for some people but it’s not that big of a deal for me. The only time that the lid would need to be replaced is if you drop it. But the carafe is only made of glass so you have to take extra care not to break it.

– The Breville Pro doesn’t offer a programmable timer like some of the higher end models in its line-up. This is really not a big issue for me because I’m usually awake enough to remember to start the brewer just before I get in the shower. There is a timer on the carafe, but it operates independently of the programmed time and turns itself on when there is still water in it from your last brew cycle. So if you use this method to measure how much coffee to use, you will always have to measure the water before pouring it in.

Breville Barista Express vs Pro Comparison

The Barista Express and the Barista Pro by Breville are both good models for making espresso at home, but what exactly is the difference between them? Can you make an informed decision when trying to decide which one is right for you? Let’s take a closer look, and do some comparison.

When comparing these two devices side-by-side, their similarities quickly become apparent. They both come with automatic milk frothing wands designed to create latte art without any effort from the user. Both devices feature built-in burr grinders which can be adjusted to five different settings ranging from fine to coarse depending on your preferences. Both devices produce up to four shots of espresso at a time, and both come with concise manuals that are easy to follow.

– Breville Barista Express vs Pro: Structure & Design

Despite these similarities, there are some notable differences between the Barista Express and the Barista Pro in terms of their structure and design. For instance, the cup tray on the Barista Pro is made from anodized aluminum while the one on the Barista Express is made from ABS plastic. More importantly, however, is what’s under each machine’s hood. It could be said that much of this difference comes down to materials used in each unit’s construction–for example, steel for something like appliances makes sense due to its durability; it also helps conduct heat more evenly than other substances. The same logic applies here since the quality of the materials used impacts the final product.

– Aesthetics & Usability

Another big difference between these two models boils down to usability and aesthetics. Although both devices are equally easy to use, they aren’t particularly user-friendly in terms of looks. The Barista Pro is slightly larger than its counterpart by about eight inches (20 cm), measuring 17 x 11 x 15 (43 cm) compared with the Barista Express’s measurements of 16.25 x 11 x 13 (41 cm). It also weighs more at 29 pounds (13 kg) as opposed to 22.7 pounds (10 kg). This might be due to its larger size which allows for a larger water reservoir and hot water tank, but it could also have something to do with the fact that the Barista Pro is made from steel and aluminum; materials which not only make for a sturdy structure, but also aid in dissipating heat more efficiently.

Notably, both of these machines use standard 120V electrical outlets–the same kind you would find in your neighbor’s house or at your local coffee shop. Both devices can be used on a daily basis without causing damage to either one. They’re rated for around fifteen years of regular usage (based on three five-minute cycles per day), and they’re covered by warranties lasting twelve months. Although there isn’t very much difference between their looks, if aesthetics are important to you then it might be worth paying an extra $100 bucks to get the better looking Barista Pro.

– Breville Barista Express vs Pro: Construction & Design – The Winner Is…

When it comes down to it, the Barista Express probably has the slight edge over the Barista Pro simply due to its price tag. It’s less expensive for a reason, and that reason is most likely because of the ABS plastic used in its construction as opposed to steel or aluminum. If you’re looking for something that will last you for years, then this might not be your best bet–the steel construction of the Barista Pro is durable enough to stand up against wear-and-tear, but with an average replacement cost of around $700 it could prove too costly if something were to happen. The same logic also applies if aesthetics are important to you; after all, the Barista Pro is a bit more expensive for a reason.

Price – The Winner Is…

The price difference between these two models is pretty significant–the Barista Express costs $299 while the Barista Pro retails at $499. For just $200 bucks it’s easy to see that you’re getting something of better quality with the latter model, but if aesthetics aren’t very important then you might be just fine sticking with the cheaper option. Also consider investing in some good looking coasters since the cheaper of the two still looks like an appliance rather than furniture; it isn’t likely to impress guests visiting your home so let’s not fool ourselves here.

Breville Barista Express vs Pro: The Verdict – My Pick

If you’re willing to invest in something like this, I would suggest you save up some more money and go with the Barista Pro. Not only is it better looking, but it’s also sturdier than its counterpart with stronger materials used for its construction–plus, spending an extra $200 bucks will probably teach you how to take care of your appliances better than if you just stuck with the cheaper option. When all factors are considered, my pick would have to be the Barista Pro simply because of aesthetics and price; not to mention that it offers more bang for your buck with its superior construction quality compared to its less expensive little brother.

Breville Barista Express vs Pro – Breville Barista Express vs Breville Pro Comparison – The Breville Barista Express is an okay choice, but if you can invest in the more expensive Barista Pro Sweet Basil’s Cafe would say to do so. If aesthetics are important to you then it’s worth spending the extra $200 bucks even though it looks like an appliance rather than furniture; not to mention that construction quality ranks higher with the latter model as well.

FAQs About Breville Barista Express vs Pro

How Is The Breville Barista Express Different From Other Espresso Machines?

A home-based espresso machine would require anyone to invest in a relatively large sum of money to purchase it, and probably wouldn’t satisfy the needs of most people who are into making their own coffee drinks at home. The biggest difference between the Breville Barista Express and any other home-based espresso machines is that the latter is built for those who want nothing but professional quality drinks made with very minimal effort on their end. It also contains all those features that an experienced barista would use to make excellent espressos, cappuccinos, etc., whether manually or automatically (see question 4). At its core, this model offers much convenience to every person who is willing to shell out $500 for a beverage-making machine:

– Less Cleanup

A lot of espresso machines require users to manually clean them after making each and every drink. The Breville Barista Express, on the other end, has an Easy Clean feature that automatically cleans all those internal components that come into contact with coffee or milk during operation. Making espresso becomes as easy as pressing a button (see question 4).

– Saves Money

By using fresh beans instead of pre-ground ones (which often taste inferior), and by avoiding overpriced drinks from popular coffee chains like Starbucks and Seattle’s Best Coffee, this machine can definitely save money in the long run. This is especially true if you happen to be the type of person who likes to buy gourmet beans in bulk.

– Ideal for Home Parties

If you’re throwing a party at home, it’s certainly more fun to make your guests their own coffee drinks than serving them instant coffee or tea. With this Breville model, all it takes is adding some hot water and milk before pushing the Latte button…then wait until your cup gets filled with café-quality cappuccinos. Repeat this process so everyone can get their needed doses of caffeine (see question 6).

How Can I Set Up My New Breville Barista Express?

Breville Barista Express vs Pro? Here are the simple steps you need to follow when you get your hands on a new Barista Express:

– First, rinse the excess coffee oils from the filter holder with warm water from inside its drip tray before popping in a paper or permanent gold filter. Next, add fresh cold water into the reservoir up to the MAX line level. Avoid overfilling it because you might end up spilling water all over the countertop if it fell onto your machine’s electronic circuit board. Also make sure that you tighten its cap securely to avoid leaking.

– Before turning on your machine, pour hot water into the milk pitcher up to the MAX line level and then place it back into its group head. You might want to let this steaming pitcher sit for a while so that it can get very hot before making coffee drinks.

– Switch on your Breville Barista Express by clicking its ON/OFF button twice (don’t forget to plug in its power cord beforehand). When the two-minute warm-up time is over, lift up the handle of this espresso machine’s portafilter until you hear a click. Then lock in one end of a chocolate powder-coated or plain coffee filter in its upper basket, and secure the other end on one of its used espresso capsules.

– Push the portafilter back into its group head and wait for about 30 seconds to allow coffee extracts to flow into the filter holder. Meanwhile, you can start steaming milk in your pitcher by turning a dial that will bring it up to high pressure (maximum milk-steaming capacity). Avoid allowing the steam wand’s tip to touch anything inside your pitcher as this might prevent optimum frothing action from taking place. When done with steaming/frothing, switch off or unplug your Breville Barista Express before moving on to step 5.

How Do I Clean My New Breville Barista Express?

You don’t really need an instruction manual to know how to clean this product (although I still provide some tips and hints below). It’s basically the same with all espresso/coffee machines: Rinse its filter holder, portafilter, filter basket, group head, steam wand, and milk pitcher using warm water and a clean cloth. Then wipe them dry using another cloth (if necessary).

You may also disassemble some parts such as the handle of its steam wand so you can scrub them with a toothbrush dipped in a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. Just rinse these parts thoroughly after scrubbing. Avoid immersing any part of your Breville Barista Express in water because it might cause damage to internal components.

Tips To Use Breville Coffee Maker

Breville Barista Express vs Pro? You can’t create a great tasting cup of coffee without using the best equipment. The Breville  is a brewing master and here are some tips to make the most of your investment.

– Grind, Grind, Grind

The most important thing you can do to ensure you have a quality cup of coffee is to use fresh ground beans. In order for water to extract flavor from the coffee grounds, they must be finely ground with particles approximately the size of table salt or slightly smaller. An inexpensive grinder will suffice but if you want something that will last for years and provide many cups of flavorful java, consider a burr grinder because it gives a more consistent grind than a blade grinder. Burr grinders come in manual and electric models and can be adjusted for desired grind size.

– Keep Your Beans Fresh

Store your coffee beans in an airtight container – glass is best because it does not absorb odors or moisture. It’s also a good idea to keep the container in the freezer to prolong freshness. Regularly freeze any excess you have on hand so it stays fresh while stored in the freezer. If you don’t have room in your kitchen, consider getting an insulated  cooler with a locking top that can store up to two bags of beans at once.

– Use The Right Amount

Your Breville coffee maker should come with a plastic scoop that measures out just the right amount of coffee for each cup on your preferences. However, you can always adjust your brew for more or less coffee depending on your taste. Some people like stronger brews while others prefer using less beans to avoid the “bitter” taste that some people associate with strong java. It’s all about personal preference and what you find most enjoyable so experiment and then stick with the setting that makes this best cup of Breville Coffee Maker .

– Temperature Matters

One way to ruin a good cup of coffee is by burning it – heat matters when making a great tasting beverage! The optimal temperature for brewing is between 195 degrees F and 205 degrees F because many flavor elements begin breaking down above 200 degrees or below 170 degrees. If your cup ends up too hot or too cold, no worries, just reheat or cool it down. Never let your hot coffee sit on the burner or in the carafe for more than 30 minutes because flavor and quality will suffer either way.

– Clean And Care For Your Machine

Cleaning your machine regularly ensures that oils, grounds, and minerals don’t build up to reduce performance. Make sure you are using distilled water so you do not have to descale as often since many tap waters are are hard due to mineral content. You may still have to descale every three months but keep it minimal if possible by simply running a vinegar solution through your machine once a month. Finally, never pour oil down your drain because it can create clogs; instead place used coffee filters in an airtight jar until trash time.
